We are excited to announce that the exhibition A Moment in Time – Paintings by Marc Barrett is now on view and that the gallery has reopened with our regular hours in place. While we are not able to host an opening reception for this exhibition in our typical fashion (with live music and cocktails), we are excited to announce that on Saturday, June 6, from 2-5 PM, Marc Barrett will be at the gallery for a casual meet and greet. Barrett’s exhibition will remain on view through July 18.
We are taking all recommended precautions to ensure the safety of gallery patrons and staff during this time. We strongly encourage all visitors to wear masks and maintain 6 feet in distance.
Artist Spotlight: Anna Tomczak May 16 2020
Anna Tomczak earned her BA in Theater Arts-Film Studies from Pennsylvania State University and an MFA in Fine Art Photography from the University of Florida. This combination of theater, film, and photography provided her the foundation for the development of dramatic imagery realized in her current work. Tomczak's photography has been featured in exhibitions at venues including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; the Southeast Museum of Photography, FL; and the Norton Museum of Art, FL, among others. Her exhibition Painted Photographs and Polaroid Transfers was also the first solo exhibition at Arts on Douglas when the gallery opened in 1996 and she continues to be represented by the gallery today. Recently, her images were included in a traveling exhibition organized by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography titled The Polaroid Project, that traveled internationally to cities including Vienna and Berlin. Tomczak's photographs were also included in an exhibit at Fotonostra in Barcelona in October of 2019.
Tomczak has received several awards and grants including the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship and Career Enhancement Grant and the Polaroid Artist Support Program Grant. Tomczak was also selected as a Distinguished Visiting Artist at the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts in Pensacola, Florida where she presented an artist talk along with Christo.
Her work has been featured in publications such as Sanctuary (2008) and Picturing Florida (2008) - both by Fresco Fine Art Publications. Her work has also appeared in the Georgia Review, View Camera Magazine, Camera Arts, Studio Photography and Design, and Florida History Magazine. In addition to her career as an artist, Anna teaches workshops in Florida and at various universities, museums, and studio classrooms throughout the US, Italy, and Spain.
Artist Spotlight: Wendy Thurlow May 09 2020
Wendy Thurlow earned her BFA in Metalsmithing from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has been producing one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry for over 20 years. Her award-winning creations have been exhibited and published widely, and she has private collectors around the globe. Thurlow's pieces incorporate centuries-old techniques with mixed metals, surface embellishments, and high-quality stones to produce jewelry that is both organic and sculptural. Her collection is award-winning and has been praised for its individuality. Wendy's eye for composition and attention to form and detail enables her to create a distinct style of jewelry.
Artist Spotlight: Christine Peloquin May 02 2020
Christine Peloquin is a 2-D mixed media artist based in Eustis, Florida. She is known for her mixed-media creations that combine drawing and painting with fabric and paper collage. Her subject matter ranges from faces and figures to landscapes and abstractions.
Christine has been teaching her mixed media techniques since 2009 and offers workshops at her studio in Orlando and across the US. She has also been selling her artwork in galleries and festivals around the country for 30 years. She has been published in numerous books and magazines such as Somerset Studio, Studio Visit and American Art Collector.
Artist Spotlight: Trent Berning April 25 2020
Trent Berning earned his M.F.A. in ceramics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is now Chair of the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Florida. Professor Berning and his work have been featured on numerous television programs including Southern California Life and Live at Five and in publications such as The Village News and Clay Times. He also recently wrote a book titled A Ceramic Guide: The Art of Creating and Teaching Wheel-Thrown Ceramics. In addition to teaching, Trent has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions across the nation. When he is not teaching, he is busy creating in his Port Orange studio and spending time with his family.
Artist Spotlight: Audrey Phillips April 17 2020
Audrey Phillips has spent most of her life in Florida where the landscape captivated her from a formative age. Observing the expansive sky and the far-reaching vistas of the ocean augmented her ability to see in the abstract and also encouraged personal reflection, making her strongly attuned to the beautiful intelligence and power of nature.
Audrey received her Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Florida. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Minnesota, New York, Michigan, California, Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida, where she currently lives. Her work is in numerous national and international corporate and private collections. In 2019, fifty-four of her paintings were acquired by the University of Tampa for permanent installation in their newly renovated Southard Family Building.
Artist Spotlight: Karlene McConnell April 08 2020
Karlene McConnell was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts but has spent the majority of her life as a Floridian. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from the University of Central Florida, she worked as a Special Education Art Teacher for several years and then as Curator/Educator for the Ormond Memorial Art Museum in Ormond Beach, FL. Currently, she paints full time in her studio in Ormond Beach. McConnell is known for her abstracted landscapes that play on the allusion of three-dimensional space.

Join us for the opening of Adorn, a national jewelry invitational featuring a broad cross-section of wearable designs by a mix of accomplished jewelry artists from across the country.
From Friday, January 24 through Sunday, January 26, Arts on Douglas will be presenting an early preview of this exhibition in conjunction with Images: A Festival of the Arts.
The official opening reception for Adorn will be held on Saturday, February 1 from 4-7 PM. During this reception, the gallery will be offering cocktails and hors d'oeuvres alongside live music by TRio, featuring Tyler Rosenke on the drums, Ron Gilotti on the bass and Howard Post on the guitar. This exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Join us on Saturday, January 4 between 4-7 PM as we kick off the New Year with a new alt_space exhibition by New Smyrna Beach sculptor Copper Tritscheller titled Perception. Light food and cocktails will be available during the reception alongside live music, featuring smooth jazz by TRio, with Tyler Rosenke on the drums, Ron Gilotti on the bass and Howard Post on the guitar. The closing reception for the holiday group exhibition Small Things Considered will also be taking place in the Feature Gallery during this event, providing a final opportunity to see this exhibition of artwork sized 10 x 10 or smaller.
