Arts on Douglas announces the opening of a new exhibition for the month of March. A Walk in the Woods: New Work by BJ Lantz is a selection of oil and mixed media paintings by Ormond Beach artist BJ Lantz.  Inspired by her love of nature, this exhibition presents Lantz’s ethereal landscapes in combination with her serene abstract paintings. The striking aspects of Lantz’s work are her use of a unique color palette, layering of paint and her intuitive mark-making. Often the artist will scratch deep into the layers of oil paint and cold wax to reveal an unexpected color in the under-painting. She manages to blend colors in such a way that her work dawns an atmospheric quality and is imbued with an earthy appeal. In contrast, there are hints of metallic paint which create bold accents. Lantz's stunning pieces seem to quiet the viewer and present an opportunity for meditation.

“Arts on Douglas is pleased to introduce BJ Lantz and her latest body of work to our art community. Lantz's paintings are process oriented and her joy of working the surface is evident," states Gallery Director Meghan Martin.

As a special feature during the opening reception, Arts on Douglas will be participating in the NSB Downtown Music Festival.  From 4-7pm, the gallery will be featuring the smooth jazz styling of Très Bien, giving center stage to Ron Gilotti on the upright bass, Jim Bryer on the guitar and Tyler Rosenke on the drums.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
This is BJ Lantz's premiere solo exhibition. Lantz received her A.S. degree in Graphic Art & Advertising Design from Daytona State College. Lantz is a trained graphic designer and an art licensor. She lives and works in Ormond Beach with her husband and two cats.
