The participating artists include Marc Barrett, Bobbi Baugh, Kelly Berning, Donne Bitner, Rene Guerin, Bryce Hammond, Allison Kline, Larry Moore, Joseph Palmerio, Bridgette Rallo, Beau Redmond, Chris Robb, Robert Ross, Jo Sinclair, Wendy Tatter, Rose Thome Casterline, Trish Thompson, Anna Tomczak, and Barbara Wagner. The exhibition will be on view from August 1 through August 29, 2015 with an opening reception on Saturday, August 1 from 4-7pm. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
“Our Endless Summer exhibition is a fun summer themed show that is a proven favorite among our gallery patrons. This years exhibition includes artists like Chris Robb whose work directly reflects on the surf culture in New Smyrna Beach. While in contrast, Barbara Wagner's abstract paintings interpret the soft August light in Florida. There is something for everyone to enjoy as well as a few surprises," states Meghan Martin, Gallery Director.
The exhibition title is an ode to the 1960’s definitive cult film by the same name. The summer themed exhibit showcases a range of stylistic approaches and media. In true Endless Summer fashion, a few of the artworks lend themselves to the idealistic spirit of the classic moving picture. For example, Beau Redmond’s piece, World's Most Famous Beach, is a pastiche collage that harkens back with its unfettered beachscape sprinkled with images of now collectible cars and a New York Times newspaper cut-out that read “Happy Days for Sunshine Tourists.”
In contrast to Redmond, plein aire painter Joseph Palmerio portrays an unpeopled scene riff with hues of blue, green, and red. In his painting, Ready for the Pass, the boat reflects onto the still water. In the background, Palmerio paints a distant city. The onlooker wonders where the people are. Perhaps they are in the boat or on the shoreline enjoying a refreshing beverage or a nice summer’s read.
In Donne Bitner’s Bravo Sunset, a magnificent rendering of a sunset, the artist captures the last lingering of daylight with beautifully executed sweeping brushstrokes. The concept of Endless Summer inspires artists to depict images of the many connotations that summer holds. As a deeply symbolic period of time, the summer season is one of joviality and lightness.
The show is sure to appeal to artists and summer enthusiasts alike. Guests are encouraged to dress in “beach chic” attire at the opening reception to receive 10% off all Endless Summer purchases.
