"I wanted landscape painting to be my career destination, since it has held my fascination from the beginning. My emphasis is in capturing the solitude and simple majesty in the landscape. I don’t want to over-romanticize the subject matter. There’s a line you can cross to sentimentality or schmaltz and I try to not go that route.
“Trial and error plays a part in my painting process. Color in particular is difficult to get right the first try. The harmony of a finished piece usually conceals a riot of paint in the underlying layers. The challenge is to make pleasing order from the chaos. When you get it to work, it's very satisfying.”
