New Exhibitions in March February 25 2017
New Smyrna Beach, FL — Arts on Douglas is excited to announce the opening of two new exhibitions for the month of March. In the feature gallery, a solo exhibition by Hope Barton titled The Best of 30 Years will be on view from March 4 - 25. In the alt_space gallery, we will be highlighting an installation titled The Language of Flowers by Central Florida interdisciplinary artist Jamieson Thomas. This exhibition will be on view from March 4 - April 15 with an Artists Talk on Friday, March 24 at 11am.
The opening reception for both exhibitions will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 4-7 pm. During the reception, the gallery will be featuring light refreshments and the smooth jazz stylings of John Pelligrino on the bass, Mark McKee on the piano and Tyler Rosenke on the drums. Live music is in conjunction with the Downtown Music Festival.
Beyond these two new exhibitions, Arts on Douglas has also recently refreshed its remaining gallery space with new work by its current roster of 40 Florida artists. This newly curated display offers something for all tastes, from functional ceramics to cutting-edge jewelry, painting, photography and mixed media fabrications.

Easels on Douglas: A Two-Day Plein-Air Workshop with Robert Ross December 29 2016
New Smyrna Beach, FL — For greater convenience to workshop participants, Arts on Douglas has rescheduled its two-day Plein-Air workshop in the neighborhood surrounding the Arts on Douglas Gallery to the weekend of Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11, from 9am - 3pm each day. Located in the historic district of New Smyrna Beach, this neighborhood offers splendid views of old structures, alleys and trees that are ideal for those who love to paint from direct observation. This two-day workshop is fitting for those with painting experience who desire to paint an urban landscape perceptively, using direct observation, sketches and photos.

New Smyrna Beach, FL— Arts on Douglas is excited to start the New Year with a new alt_space exhibition by South Florida sculptor and installation artist Vanessa Diaz. In this site-specific installation titled “The Original Purpose Has Slipped Our Memory,” Diaz reinterprets a variety of used and discarded objects by presenting them in new and unfamiliar contexts and environments to explore our behavior towards objects, associated memories, and what defines a place as ‘familiar.’
This exhibition will be on view from January 7 through February 11, 2017. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 7 from 4 -7pm with light refreshments and live music by smooth jazz trio Tres Bien, featuring Ron Gilotti on the upright base, Tyler Rosenke on the drums and Billy Hutch on the guitar. An artist talk with Vanessa Diaz is scheduled for Friday, February 10 at 11am. This exhibition, reception and artist talk are all free and open to the public.
Small Things Considered 2016 November 19 2016
New Smyrna Beach, FL — Arts on Douglas is pleased to announce the opening of its premier year-end group exhibition and holiday sale, Small Things Considered. This annual exhibition features original small-scale works of art sized 10” x 10” or smaller. The opening reception will take place on December 3 from 4-7pm and we will be featuring the smooth jazz stylings of Tres Bien, featuring Ron Gilotti on the upright base, Tyler Rosenke on the drums and Billy Hutch on the guitar. Light refreshments will also be served. This exhibition will remain on view through January 10, 2017 in our feature gallery.

New Smyrna Beach, FL — Arts on Douglas announces the opening of two new exhibitions for the month of November. In the Feature Gallery, a solo exhibition by central Florida abstract painter Audrey Phillips titled Open will be on view from November 5 through 26, 2016 with an opening reception on Saturday, November 5 from 4-7pm. In the alt_space, a showcase of kinetic and static backlit collages by Susanna and Mark Helman titled Weatherscapes will be on view from November 5 through December 17, 2016. The opening reception for this exhibition will also take place on Saturday, November 5 from 4-7 pm. During the reception for both exhibitions, the gallery will be featuring classic reggae, soft rock and acoustic sets by the Funky Volcanoes, giving center stage to Andrew Elliot on guitar and vocals and Tyler Rosenke on the drums.

This exhibition will be on view October 1-29, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 1 from 4-7 pm. An interactive artwork Tarot reading will also take place at the opening, with image interpretations shared from 5-6 pm. Arts on Douglas announces the opening of a themed group exhibition entitled Endless Summer. This is the fourth iteration of the show curated by Gallery Director, Meghan Martin. The exhibition features 23 selected artists. Each work included in this fun, lighthearted show is an artist's interpretation of summer ideals, memories and/or sensations. The participating artists include Linda Amundsen, Marc Barrett, Hope Barton, Bobbi Baugh, Kelly Berning, Trent Berning, Donne Bitner, Heidi Edwards, René Guerin, Bryce Hammond, Jane Jennings, BJ Lantz, Joseph Palmerio, Christine Peloquin, Bridgette Rallo, Beau Redmond, Mary Schimpff Webb, Jo Sinclair, Wendy Tatter, Rose Thome Casterline, Trish Thompson, Anna Tomczak and Barbara Wagner. The exhibition will be on view from August 6 through August 27, 2016, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 6, from 4-7pm. During the opening reception, the gallery will be featuring classic reggae and modern beach music by the Funky Volcanoes, giving center stage to Andrew Elliot on guitar and vocals and Tyler Rosenke on the drums. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
Curators Talk July 09 2016
Guest curator Dr. James Murphy will give a talk entitled, “The Built Environment: Past, Present and Future.” He will discuss the ways artists have reacted to the rapidly changing urban culture over the centuries. The concept behind the exhibition and lecture was ACA Founder Doris Leeper’s conviction that the natural and man-made environments were one. She envisioned a future institute to study the built environment and contribute to its quality of life, a project never realized.
