Paying homage to the 1960s cult classic film of the same name, this fun, upbeat exhibition is a visual exploration of the summer season and all that it entails. Now in its eighth year, this display, curated by Gallery Director, Meghan Martin, features 35 Florida artists, each presenting their own interpretations of summer ideals, memories, experiences, and sensations in unique and creative ways.
In all, 20 artists represented by Arts on Douglas will be taking part in this exhibition along with a juried selection of 15 guest artists who were chosen from more than 50 entries. In consideration of the high number of artists and artworks included, we have continued this exhibition into our alt_space gallery.
The artists featured in this exhibition have chosen to present a refreshing range of subject matter this year. A walk through the gallery will reveal stylized palm trees, children at play, patterns in the sand, brightly colored boats, sweeping horizons, and whimsical flamingos among many other subjects.
In addition to the varied subject matter, artists have also chosen to express their interpretations of summer using a range of mediums, from the porcelain shell-form luminaries of Mount Dora ceramicist Peggi Nadeau to the simple elegance of a magnolia blossom captured by St. Augustine photographer Lenny Foster.
As a whole, this lively exhibition has proven to be a favorite among gallery patrons over the years and Arts on Douglas is excited to continue the tradition with this year’s line-up. The diversity of artwork in this display has been carefully curated to present a cohesive summertime experience for all audiences to enjoy.
