Artist Statement

The paintings stand as a journal of sorts: a compilation of thoughts, experiences and ideas, the heavily collaged and textured surfaces acting as a record of process. Each layer tells its own story and as the work progresses there is less emphasis on meaning or subject and more on painting as a manner of working. Paintings that ultimately represent only their physical selves.

The current series, Urban Landscapes, has evolved from a process of creating paintings that relate to, but are not reproductions of, photographs I have taken around my neighborhood the last couple of years…images I’ve found intriguing of concealment and erasure, passage of time and those surfaces that record the flicker and flash of emotion, memory and dream.
