Workshop description:
The neighborhood surrounding Arts on Douglas Gallery, located in the historic district of New Smyrna Beach, offers splendid views of old structures, alleys and trees that are ideal for those who love to paint from direct observation. This two-day workshop is fitting for those with painting experience who desire to paint an urban landscape perceptively, using direct observation, sketches and photos. Students will learn to look at the landscape for meaning, make quick decisions and paint with a loaded brush, striving to capture the perceptual moment. Workshop participants will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. at Arts on Douglas, move out onto the sidewalk to paint, take a short lunch break, and then paint again in the afternoon until 3 p.m. Students will receive personal assistance and critiques. A supply list for the workshop is available.
