Shawn Meharg
Shawn Meharg is a landscape painter who pushes the stylistic boundaries of his subject matter through his use of unique vantage points, scale, and movement through each scene.
Meharg explains, “As I stand before a vast wilderness, I want the viewer to see and sense it as I do: from its leafy intricacies to its most rudimentary horizons. In some paintings, I present paths with attainable distances that allow viewers to travel through the scene. In others, there is only a glimpse of what lies in the distance, as if the viewer is passing by. As I paint each piece, I am blending elements that represent the past, present, and future, which combine to conjure scenes that are both familiar and refreshingly new.”
About the Artist
Shawn Meharg was born in Southern Ontario in 1967. He completed his BFA at the University of Mississippi. From there, he worked as a theatrical scenic artist and designer throughout many branches of the entertainment industry. His professional career as a painter began in 2001. He has exhibited in galleries throughout Florida and into the Carolinas, and his work was also featured in an Art in Embassies program in Sophia, Bulgaria. He has been represented by Arts on Douglas since 2023.
