Inez Nickmans' furniture and art objects are colorful one-of-a-kind creations that vary in shape, form, and function. Each piece is layered with vibrant acrylic paints. Color and patterns emerge through scratches and marks left by the artist's hand, providing the appearance of weathered wood. Nickman's work is treated with linseed oil and is then buffed to a satin smooth finish.
The artist approaches every piece like a painter. She explains, "I have no preconceived idea how it will turn out. The weather, the temperature, and the humidity can affect how it will look. No two pieces are alike."
Nickmans was born in Belgium. She received a B.A. in Fine Arts from the State University of New York (SUNY). She began her career as a painter. She has exhibited her paintings in many galleries across Europe.
