Donald R. Sondag, Jr.

About the Artist

Don Sondag was encouraged and supported by his parents at a young age to pursue his love of art. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and studied portraiture at the National Academy of Design and Art Students League in New York City.

Don has created illustrations for Harcourt School Publishers, portraits of prominent Central Florida figures, including college presidents, deans and professors from Rollins College, the University of Central Florida, Florida Southern College and Seminal Community College; many CEO's and top executives of major companies and influential families of the area, including Central Florida's beloved Fred Rogers, from the show "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood"

Teaching at Seminole Community College, Walt Disney Imagineering, Walt Disney Feature Animation, and Crealdé School of Art allows Don to share his love of painting and encourage and guide emerging and experienced artists. Don's 28 year association with McRae Art Studio allowed him to work amongst Central Florida's esteemed artists and refine his work.

Don's art has been exhibited in many juried art festivals and plein-air competitions including Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, Carmel Art Festival-Plein Air, and Paradise Paint Out, Islamorada, Florida, among others. His work has been featured on a number of festival posters and has been featured on the covers of many publications including Winter Park Land Trust and the Winter Park Magazine.

Sondag has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions throughout Central Florida, and in 2020 his work was featured in solo exhibit titled Venetian Canals of Winter Park: The Art of Don Sondag at the Albin Polasek Museum.
