Roger Questel

About the Artist:

Roger Questel is a graduate of Parson's School of Design. He began his career as a designer and wood sculptor in New York City. Working out of a storefront in SoHo he was commissioned by many renowned clients including Orson Wells, Ralph Lauren, Gordon Getty and Carly Simon.

Sculpting in both ceramic and wood, Roger seeks to create forms that carry a subtle narrative which engages the viewer in completing the story: a circle pierced by a block, a small bird alighting on a bleached carcass, a square transforming into a bowl.

In 1990, while seeking to cast his sculptures in bronze, Roger invented a lightweight and affordable metal composite material. He patented his innovation and founded Questech Corporation based upon this new material. In1991, the Smithsonian Institute inducted Questech Metal into its permanent collection of innovative materials at the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design.  Since then the company has developed many new and innovative materials and has just celebrated its 32nd year in business.

In addition to Roger’s work with Questech, he has continued to pursue his passion for wood and ceramic sculpture working in his studios in rural Vermont and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
