About the Artist
Candace Knapp was born in Michigan and has lived in many places in the United States and Sweden. She is now based on the west coast of Florida. Knapp has a BFA in Sculpture from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Illinois. She also attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. While living in Sweden, her work was represented by Gallerie Ostermalm in Stockholm.
Since moving to Florida, she has created work for several public art commissions for the City of St Petersburg, Tampa, and Hillsborough County Public Art Program. In Florida, Knapp has also exhibited at the Foosner Art Museum in Melbourne, the Florida Museum for Women Artists in Deland, the Mt. Dora Center for the Arts in Mt. Dora, and the Florida Craftsmen Gallery and Morean Art Center, both in St Petersburg. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Miaoli Wood Sculpture Museum in Sanyi, Taiwan (where she was invited to have a show in 2007) and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis TN. In 2020, an exhibition of her work titled Shimmer and Lace: The Art of Candace Knapp was featured at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Florida.
