Christine Peloquin
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Christine Peloquin is known for her mixed-media fabrications that combine drawing and painting with fabric and paper collage.  She works by carefully arranging and sewing collage materials, such as antique cloth, contemporary fabric, old book pages, wallpaper, and leaves, that are then affixed to wood panels.  Over the collaged objects, Christine draws in charcoal and then paints on the surface with acrylics and mediums.

The title of this exhibition, Journey Back to Bliss, hints at the cyclical process that she regularly undergoes as she creates art.  She is happiest when her workflows from her, observing that when she is in the zone, she knows not to get in her own way, not to think and just to draw and paint. Commenting on such times she stated “These moments are simply bliss. These paintings and moments are why I’m an artist.” She is quick to point out, however, that these magical moments are not a regular occurrence.  There are frustrations, roadblocks, and inevitable mistakes, but instead of dwelling on these obstacles, she moves forward with tenderness and willingness. Christine explains, “This show is about honoring that space in my life and allowing myself the time and the energy to find the pure and sacred spark of inspiration and letting it flow. I have always said that any day spent in the studio is a good day! This work is about that process and the art of living with self-awareness.”
