On February 3, 1996, Arts on Douglas opened its doors at 123 Douglas Street and has been promoting the work and careers of professional Florida artists at this location ever since. Over the past 25 years, the gallery has worked with hundreds of artists, opened over 350 solo and group exhibitions, and placed thousands of works of art in private and corporate settings throughout Florida, the US, and abroad. The gallery also initiated the First Saturday Art Stroll and Gallery Walk in downtown New Smyrna Beach, which has become a popular community event. To celebrate this milestone, Arts on Douglas is highlighting work by a curated selection of artists who helped set the bar for the high caliber of artwork that continues to be exhibited today.
For this display, Arts on Douglas presents work by seven artists that have exhibited with the gallery since its onset in 1996, and ten additional artists that were heavily involved with the gallery during its first five years. Gallery Director Meghan Martin elaborates, “In January of this year, I began organizing this exhibition. It was a pleasure to reconnect with so many of the artists who were an integral part of our beginning. Each one enthusiastically agreed to participate. As a whole, this exhibition provides an invigorating mix of artwork by an impressive lineup of artists. The diverse range of mediums include painting, sculpture, jewelry, and photography, all of which come together as a dynamic, powerful display – it’s a perfect way to celebrate our history!”
