Burn Zone
oil on canvas
30" x 30"
30" x 30"
painted en plein air
While driving through the Wekiva State Park, I was taken by this scene. The rangers had just finished a controlled burn, the trees and ground were charred and smoke drifted up from various small, still burning fires. The sun was setting behind the trees with a fiery glow and the whole scene had a surreal unnatural beauty to it. I went back to block it in the next day but the fires were out. Finishing what I could before sunset, the rest was done from memory. This painting really started with the title.
