Artist Bio
Jim Draper is a painter of series: landscapes, shorebirds, hands and most recently palm trees. During his years as an MFA student at the University of Georgia in Athens he was drawn to the abstract expressionist emphasis on the "importance of assembling a body of world with a serial imagery." Draper found thtat in reworking an image over and over, he was able to come to an understanding of that form and reach beyond the image to another place. Draper often returns to past serial motifs. He explains the significance of sticking with a particular subject by stating, "Once you've settled on the content and general composition within a format, you are released to explore the pleasure of painting, to really jump into the process... You are free to play with color, texture and surface."
