Painting - Carol Elder Napoli
Artist Bio
Carol Napoli's paintings are harmoniously composed, highlighting her intuitiveness and improvisation.
My current works are developed using acrylic paint upon 300 lb. rag papers. These paintings are built of layers of acrylic paint and mediums worked over and through with various washes of transparent color. The paintings display a "history" of marks and images, which have been created by the previous layer. At times the paint is applied with rich thick strokes creating a sense of energy to the image. These thick areas of paint are often manipulated with various tools such as wood pieces or cardboard creating architectural and figurative forms. Surface textures and the reflective qualities of the paint are also elements that are used to develop tension and movement within the compositions. The combinations of color, images, design, and surface nuances work together to build abstract paintings that are not without meaning and purpose.
