I can't think of a more compelling thing to paint than any place where the ocean meets the land. There is a built in narrative of the battle between the elements, the jagged rocks face off against the constant insistence of the water and eventually the water wins out. Hard vs soft. I love the challenge of trying to get something on canvas that is always moving, always changing. Accomplishing this on a beach in Laguna isn't so bad either.
