Artist Statement

The rich, luminous colors of Indonesian batik fabrics are the inspiration for the textile assemblages I create for the wall an for the tabletop. Because batik fabrics are hand-printed and hand-dyed, each bolt of fabric is a work of art in itself, an original, which will never be duplicated. Being able to group colors and patters of these one-of-a-kind beauties into meaningful works is a privilege unto itself. The tactile experience of working with soft, pure cottons, silks and rayons together with the visual experience of handling colorful patterns and designs is a feast for the senses. I pair them up with three-dimensional objects and then I begin to "play."
